What a great experience. We had expected to run into issues as itโ€™s a remodel. They were so great at dealing with unexpected and adjusting to fit as needed on the fly. We had one small issue and they quickly changed their plan and resolved it before we even knew it was an issue. Thank you so much for an amazing bathroom!

Bathroom renovation in Tulsa homes

What we see in Tulsa bathrooms

Tulsa's houses are older than most of the country's, and its summers are hot and wet. Both show up the moment an old tub comes out. Here is what the numbers say, and what they mean for your bathroom.

Tulsa, by the numbers

What that means behind your bathroom wall

  1. Showers tiled over drywall or green board

Many showers from the 1970s into the 2000s were tiled over gypsum board, which soaks up water once a grout line cracks. We take wet walls down to the studs and rebuild them on cement or foam board under a waterproofing membrane. Never green board.

  2. Soft floors and studs at the old tub

Fifty years of showers is a long time for a slow leak at a drain or valve to go unnoticed. Your quote says plainly what could change once the walls are open, and if we find rot, you hear it from Jeremy before anyone touches it.

  3. Big jetted tubs from the 1980s and 90s

About one in five Tulsa homes was built in those two decades, and many came with a large corner tub that rarely gets filled. In an east Tulsa master bath we turned one into a full tiled walk-in shower. See that project.Source 1

  4. Moisture that needs somewhere to go

Tulsa summers are humid, and in winter moisture forms when a warm house meets a cold wall, bathroom windows especially. Crews used to Phoenix or Florida build for a different climate. We waterproof every wet area for ours, so that moisture never reaches the studs.Source 2

  5. Homes in a historic district

Several Tulsa neighborhoods, including Swan Lake, Yorktown and North Maple Ridge, have historic preservation zoning, and changes that show outside, like a new bathroom window, fall under the Tulsa Preservation Commission's design guidelines. If your house is in one, tell us at the estimate and we will talk it through with you before anything is planned for the outside.Source 3

Walk-in shower installation Tulsa, OK

Which kind of Tulsa home is yours?

The age of a house says a lot about what is behind its tile. Pick yours to see what we usually find and what we would recommend.

Classic bathroom with white subway tile, a freestanding tub and a marble-top vanity

Built before 1960

Keep the character, fix what's behind it

Older Tulsa houses tend to have small bathrooms, original tile, and cast iron tubs and drains. We keep what suits the house, like white subway or hex tile, and replace what is failing. A narrow room usually gets a walk-in shower sized to fit, in place of a tub you climb over.

  • Old plumbing brought up to code while the walls are open
  • Tile and trim chosen to suit the house
  • Walk-in showers sized for small rooms

Walk-in tub installation Tulsa, OK

Shower, walk-in tub or roll-in? Choose by who bathes.

The right bathroom depends less on the house than on the person using it, today and ten years from now. This is how we help Tulsa families decide, and what we would put in.

Rain head and hand shower with matte black trim on wood-look gray tile, in a shower we built in east Tulsa

You shower standing and want less to clean

A tiled walk-in shower, built to last in Tulsa's climate.

Large porcelain wall tile
Fewer grout lines to scrub, and porcelain does not fade or soak up water.
Small tile or pebble on the floor
More grout lines underfoot means more grip when the floor is wet.
Waterproofing behind every tile
A membrane over cement or foam board, so a cracked grout line never turns into a rotten wall.
A valve you can service
Jeremy recommends Delta, because worn parts can be replaced without opening the wall. Moen or Kohler on request.
Walk-in tub with an open door, a built-in seat and a grab bar, installed in a tiled tub alcove

Someone needs to sit to bathe, or soaks for sore joints

A walk-in tub, chosen with the bather, not for them.

You stay inside while it fills and drains
Plan on several minutes each way. A fast-drain model shortens the wait.
Enough hot water
A deep tub needs enough hot water to fill it, per the maker's specs. If your heater needs a look, our on-site plumber or a plumber we recommend checks it.
It has to fit the space and the door
Most are made for a standard 60-inch tub space, the drain has to be on the right side, and the tub has to come in through your doors.
Help from the VA
The VA's HISA benefit can pay toward changes a VA doctor prescribes, and it excludes Jacuzzi-type tubs. How we work with the VA.
Curbless roll-in shower with grab bars and a white hex floor under a transom window, built for a veteran in Glenpool

A wheelchair or walker is part of the plan

A curbless roll-in shower, planned around the chair.

No curb at all
The floor slopes to the drain, so a chair rolls straight in.
Door width and turning space
A wheelchair needs a wide enough door and room to turn around inside, so both shape the layout.
Grab bars on blocking
Wood blocking goes into the wall while it is open, so bars hold real weight now or later.
A seat and a hand shower
A fold-down seat and a hand shower on a slide bar, placed for the person using them.

A soaking tub inside the shower

South Tulsa homeowners wanted a freestanding soaking tub without giving up the shower. We took out the old tub and shower floor and built a wet room: the tub and the shower share one tiled, waterproofed space with a pebble floor.

Bathroom remodel cost in Tulsa, OK

What Tulsa homeowners ask us first

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Tulsa?

Most full remodels land between $10,000 and $25,000, and our minimum job is $2,500 to $5,000. Two recent Tulsa jobs show the spread: a freestanding tub wet room in south Tulsa came to about $8,000 to $9,000, and an east Tulsa master bath, where a garden tub became a tiled shower and the vanities were rebuilt, to about $22,000 to $23,000. Our cost guide shows what moves the number.

Can you install a shower in one day?

Often, yes. We install one-day shower kits and acrylic or solid-surface wall panels all the time, and they are an honest option beside tile. A tiled shower takes longer, because its waterproofing has to cure before the tile goes on. Either way, if a soft floor or a rotten stud turns up behind the old surround, it gets fixed, not covered. A full remodel usually takes about a week, up to two for a larger room or detailed tile.

Do you offer financing for a Tulsa bathroom remodel?

Not in house. Most homeowners who want to spread the cost use a local lender, and Tulsa Teachers Credit Union, Arvest and Regent Bank all do this kind of project. We give you an itemized written quote you can take to them.

Do you install walk-in tubs and grab bars for seniors in Tulsa?

Yes. Grab bars go on wood blocking we add inside the wall, placed where the person using them actually reaches. If you are planning this for a parent, bring them to the visit or call us together, so the bathroom fits the person who will use it. Walk-in tubs.

Can you make a Tulsa bathroom wheelchair accessible?

Yes: a curbless roll-in shower, a wider door where the wall allows, room to turn, grab bars and a seat. We built one for a U.S. military veteran in Glenpool, paid for by the Tinker Federal Credit Union Foundation. See that project.

Does the VA help pay for a walk-in tub or shower?

It can, when a VA doctor prescribes the change for a medical reason. The VA's HISA benefit pays up to $6,800 over a veteran's lifetime for a service-connected disability, or any disability rated 50% or more, and up to $2,000 otherwise, and it excludes Jacuzzi-type tubs. How we work with the VA.

Can you bring a Tulsa commercial restroom up to ADA standards?

Yes. We plan clearances, grab bars, fixtures and signage to the 2010 ADA Standards for offices, restaurants, schools and public buildings, and we are a registered federal vendor (SAM). ADA restroom compliance.

Can the work be scheduled around our business hours?

Yes. We set the schedule with you before we start. Where a building has more than one restroom, keeping one open while we work on the other is possible; that is your call. Most commercial restrooms take 2 days to a week.
