How we did it

The Tinker Federal Credit Union Foundation had the honor of working with this company to do an accessibility shower for a Korean War veteran and they were not only great to communicate with, but very professional and willing to work within our nonprofit budget. Highly recommend

Who it was for

A Korean War veteran in Glenpool whose bathroom had a corner jacuzzi tub, which means climbing over a high tub wall to bathe. The Tinker Federal Credit Union Foundation took on the project and asked us to build him a shower he could use safely, within the foundation's nonprofit budget.

What we did

  • Took out the corner jacuzzi tub and the old shower floor, and hauled them away.
  • Capped the old plumbing and moved the supply to the wall, then set a new shower drain and new fixtures.
  • Built the shower floor so it rolls straight in, with no curb to step or roll over, and tiled it with a non-slip floor.
  • Waterproofed the shower with the Schluter waterproofing system and tiled the walls seven feet high.
  • Added a shampoo niche and grab bars where his hands land when he moves in and out.

Working to a nonprofit budget

We priced the job line by line so the foundation could see exactly where the money went, and kept it to the work that made the shower safe: the floor, the waterproofing, the grab bars and the plumbing. The foundation's own review is on this page.

What it cost

About $7,000 to $8,500, paid by the foundation.
